James Wellwood (b. 1999) is a Kilkenny/Galway-based visual artist. He graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art (Painting) from Limerick School of Art and Design in 2024. His narrative-based work documents everyday experiences and his immediate surroundings, with a particular focus on rural spaces. In recent years, his practice has become increasingly multidisciplinary, working across painting, drawing, and sculptural processes.
Since graduating, Wellwood has exhibited nationally and internationally, including a solo exhibition at Engage Art Studios as part of the 2026 Galway International Arts Festival. He has also participated in group exhibitions at The Hunt Museum and Ormston House (Limerick); Outset Gallery and 126 Artist-Run Gallery (Galway); GOMA (Waterford); Dunamaise Arts Centre (Portlaoise); and iP12 House (Chania, Crete).
In 2025, he undertook a three-month residency with Breaking the Patterns in Chania, Crete, and in 2026, was awarded the Artlinks Bursary Award.
